What do I need to hire a trailer?
To hire a trailer from JD Trailer Hire, you’ll need:
- A valid driver’s licence
- A vehicle with suitable towing capacity
- A compatible towbar and electrical plug (7 pin) Adaptors are available for free.

Do I need a special licence to tow a trailer?
No. A standard driver’s licence is sufficient to tow our trailers.
However, we will not rent a trailer to a person on a learner’s permit. Insurance coverage does not apply for learner drivers. The renter may be liable for all costs if damage to persons or property occurs as a result.
Do I need trailer brakes fitted to my vehicle?
Our 3.5-tonne Custom Tilt Car Trailers are fitted with electric brakes, meaning your towing vehicle must have an electric brake controller installed.
If you don’t have one, JD Trailer Hire offers controllers for hire or purchase.
Our 8x5 Tilt Cage, Motorbike, and 100L Weed Spray/Fertiliser trailers do not require an electric brake controller.
