Position

Reverse your vehicle into line with the trailer and prepare the coupling.

Connect

Lower the coupling onto the tow ball and lock it securely.

Secure

Attach the safety chains, trailer plug and breakaway cable (if fitted).

Final Check

Raise the jockey wheel, test the lights and make sure everything is secure.

Step-by-Step Guide

Position Your Vehicle

Get everything lined up before connecting.

  • Park on level ground where possible.
  • Remove the coupling lock.
  • Reverse your vehicle until the tow ball is directly below the coupling.
  • Use the jockey wheel to adjust the coupling height if needed.

Connect the Coupling

The coupling must be fully locked before towing.

  1. Lower the coupling onto the tow ball.
  2. Close the coupling latch.
  3. Insert the safety pin if fitted.
  4. Wind the jockey wheel up slightly to confirm the coupling is securely attached.
Tip: If the coupling lifts off the tow ball, reconnect it before continuing.

Connect Chains & Trailer Plug

These connections keep your trailer safe and legal.

  • Cross the safety chains under the drawbar.
  • Connect the chains to your vehicle.
  • Plug in the trailer electrical connector.
  • Connect the breakaway cable if your trailer is fitted with electric brakes.
  • Make sure cables won't drag on the ground.

Test Lights & Brakes

Check everything before driving away.

  • Test the left and right indicators.
  • Check the brake lights and tail lights.
  • If fitted, connect and test the EB2 Brake Controller.
  • Confirm the trailer brakes are operating correctly.

Final Walk-Around

Take one last look before you leave.

  • Jockey wheel fully raised and secured.
  • Coupling locked.
  • Safety chains attached.
  • Trailer plug connected.
  • Breakaway cable connected (if fitted).
  • Load secured.
  • Tyres appear in good condition.
